Singapore mulls wide-ranging Danang investment
(7/7/2010 9:49:08 AM)
Singaporean entrepreneurs are eyeing investment in cruise tourism, industrial parks, and education in Danang, which they consider an “emerging potential business partner”, the island-nation’s ambassador to Vietnam, Simon Wong, has said.

The city has enormous potential for cruise and maritime tourism because it is located on the coast and between the regional tourism hubs of Hong Kong and Singapore, the head of cruise operator, the Singapore Cruise Center, told city authorities at a meeting Monday.

The company signed a deal with Danang Port to set up a tourism joint venture based in the city.

Singapore-based Sembcorp is planning to build an industrial park-urban area complex in the 1,100-hectare Danang High-Tech Park, Low Sin Leng, the firm's executive chairwoman, said.

Sembcorp will also assist Danang with marketing and attracting businesses to the high-tech park once the city can find land and human resources.

The company has built four industrial park-urban area complexes in the southern Binh Duong Province and the northern Bac Ninh and Hai Phong Provinces.

NTUC First Campus, one of Singapore's leading educational institutions, is also seeking opportunities in the city.

With no FDI project in the city incurring losses in the last five years, more are headed for the city, including an international university by the UK and Vietnam governments and an aeronautic space industry park to be developed by the European Aeronautic Defense and Space Company, Nguyen Ba Thanh, secretary of the city Party Committee, said.
